In a game of big numbers,
Joe Montana's were the biggest of all. Montana
earned his record third MVP award (he also won in
XVI and XIX) by leading the 49ers to their fourth
Super Bowl title, a 55-10 pasting of
Denver. The 49ers tied Pittsburgh
for most Super Bowl victories. Montana teamed with Jerry
Rice for three touchdown passes: 20 yards in the
first quarter, and 38 and 28 yards in the third.
Montana also had scoring passes of 7 yards to Brent
Jones and 35 yards to John Taylor. The 5 touchdown
passes were a new Super Bowl record. Montana
completed 22-of-29 passes for 297 yards. |
